Torque control by the Phoenix Orthodontist
The main reason that torque issues remain is because a .020”x.025” wire does not fully engage the bracket slot. As long as this slot is not fully engaged, the bracket prescription will never be fully expressed. Since the bracket slot is rarely fully engaged by most Phoenix orthodontists, additional torque must be placed in the wire by the clinician to compensate regardless of the bracket prescription.
First, in order to procline the maxillary central incisors additional labial crown torque is needed by the Phoenix orthodontist in the central incisors. The maxillary lateral incisors, on the other hand, are proclined too far and will require lingual crown torque to tip the crowns back. Finally, in the area of the maxillary first and second molars the lingual cusps are descended occlusally. The Phoenix orthodontist will require additional buccal root torque to help level the Curve of Wilson and hopefully prevent future balancing side interferences. The Phoenix orthodontist must evaluate the actual amounts of torque to be placed in the wire clinically.
