Clinical Implications
Inhibition of Phoenix orthodontic tooth movement using pharmacological Phoenix orthodontic anchorage could have implications for Phoenix orthodontics beyond simply maintaining molar Phoenix orthodontic anchorage during incisor/canine retraction.  In situations such as molar distalization, a common problem is unwanted forward movement of the anterior teeth.  Injection of OPG-Fc around the anterior anchor teeth may prevent their movement, making intraoral distalizing appliances such as the pendulum and the distal jet far more effective.  Along the same line of thought, protraction of molars without retraction of anterior teeth is extremely difficult without the use of implants or mini-screws.  Delivery of OPG-Fc around the anterior teeth could help limit their retraction.  In addition to sagittal Phoenix orthodontic anchorage, OPG-Fc could be used for vertical Phoenix orthodontic anchorage control as well.  An example is maintaining the vertical position of molars while using intrusion mechanics on the anterior teeth.  Finally, pharmacological Phoenix orthodontic anchorage could be used to minimize the dentoalveolar effects of orthopedic appliances such as rapid maxillary expanders and reverse-pull facemasks.  While the intended effects of these appliances are skeletal in nature, dentoalveolar effects of these appliances have been documented (Westwood et al., 2003; Oliveira et al., 2004).

In that OPG-Fc did not result in ankylosis of any teeth and that the drug clears from the body within weeks or months (Body et al., 2003), its affects appear to be transient.  From a clinical perspective, this means that Phoenix orthodontic tooth movement can be inhibited temporarily and then a month or two later they can be moved normally.
